Do You Dream About Clearing Clutter?

“Happy are those who dream dreams and are ready to pay the price to make them come true”. Joseph Cardinal Suenens

Do you wish you could get rid of clutter? It isn’t that easy to just wish it away. After we have the dream of getting rid of clutter then we need to act on that dream.

Today make your dream come true by doing just one little thing to clear clutter. It could be to reduce clutter under your bathroom sink, a drawer in your desk or gather all loose papers in your home into a basket to get ready to set up a good working file system. You know my favorite is Freedom Filer because it is so simple and functional.

Dream your dream and then set about making it come true.

Doing Nothing And Clearing Clutter

Doing Nothing And Clearing Clutter

“There’s never enough time to do all the nothing you want”.—Calvin and Hobbes

Isn’t this just the truth? We all want to have joy and fun in our life but do we put off doing the nothing we want to do because we think we have to get rid of clutter in our homes before we can do nothing?

Because I am a professional organizer I am big on getting rid of clutter but I suggest we don’t wait until we have everything exactly the way we want it, that along with clearing clutter we take time for ourselves to do the nothing of our choice.

After you have gotten rid of clutter (even just 15 minutes worth) what are you going to do to reward yourself and do the nothing you want to do?

I LOVE to organize so I just might choose to organize something but if that doesn’t count I will relax with a book and a chocolate ice cream. If I sit still for a minute I probably will find myself asleep.

15 Minutes A Day Is All It Takes For Clearing Clutter

15 Minutes A Day Is All It Takes For Clearing Clutter

Do you ever say, “I just don’t have time to organize” or I don’t have time to anything I want to do. Let’s say clearing clutter is something you want to do. But you say you don’t have time. Think about this:

If you spend just 15 minutes a day clearing clutter in your home and life and you did it five (5) days a week you would have spent 1 hour and 15 minutes clearing clutter for the week. You could have gotten a lot done don’t you think? And if you were clearing clutter for six (6) days a week for only 15 minutes a day you would have done it for one hour and 30 minutes. WOW it sure adds up.

15 minute ideas for clearing clutter:

•Set a timer for 15 minutes. You know you have permission to only organize for 15 minutes. Mentally this means a lot.
•Start with a little teeny tiny area—a drawer in the bathroom, in the bedroom, one shelf in the kitchen, one shelf in the refrigerator, with your basket of cosmetics, or your purse.
•If you can’t find 15 minutes in a day try getting up 15 minutes earlier. (I heard that groan)

Keep it up every day for a week and see the results that can happen almost like magic. What you do when you are clearing clutter to make it happen in your busy life.

Clearing Clutter in the Pantry

Clearing Clutter in the Pantry

Clearing Clutter in the pantry or in the cupboards where you keep your canned foods is so important when you have limited space. I am still doing Show and Share week. This is my tiny pantry.

What is important to clearing clutter in these cupboards is to only keep things that you use. If you have bought a can of something and you never use it, donate it to a food bank or make a menu right now using that ingredient and get it out of your cupboard.

Keep spices together to save time and make finding a spice a snap. Use a turn table, a “stair step” spice rack, a rack that fits on a wall or a spice drawer to keep all spices together and within easy reach.

How do you store your spices?

Clearing Clutter With Beautiful Containers

Clearing Clutter With Beautiful Containers

Simplify, simplify, simplify that is our theme for the week. When we have the goal of clutter control in our homes there are many ways to accomplish this.

I had a charming woman who lives in Australia and watches my videos on YouTube leave me the funniest message and I just had to share it:

“My husband is convinced that I buy stuff just so I can buy organizing stuff so it’s all organized, he says I spend more time organizing my craft supplies that using them (which is probably true) but I love to have things neat and know where everything is. STILL it looks like a bomb has hit my craft area because I’m trying to stuff MORE stuff into a space that isn’t big enough, I should purge, I know I should purge (I hear you telling me TO purge) but I just can’t, because I just know the milli-second I get rid of it, I will need it!”
Side view:
Clutter control using containersCan you relate to this? I certainly can. I buy organizing “stuff” because I know it will help me in my ongoing desire of clutter clearing. This cute box at the top I bought two years ago and it has been waiting for a home. It is collapsible so it wasn’t taking up much room. And now look what I did with it. This drawer has never looked so organized. The front is red and the sides are brown/black.

I love clearing clutter and just organizing in containers within drawers makes things more accessible and easier to find. And it limits the amount of things that can “live” in the drawer.

Looking down at the box:

What is your favorite way of clearing clutter? (Press on the word comment and let us know—or if you are the first it will say no comment).

Mission Clutter Control In The Closet

Mission Clutter Control In The Closet

Clutter control in the bedroom closetI had a friend tell me she took my words to heart and she went into her master bedroom closet. She was on “mission clutter control”. She proudly said she now has nothing on her floor and is moving up higher in her closet.

After clearing clutter from the floor and the rods the next step in clutter control in the closet is the top shelve. Take everything down and decided if this is where the things need to live that were there. Are there items that can live there but need to be contained in containers? Are there other places and homes the things you found need to live?

Make a decision right now and find homes for everything and put the remaining items in your closet in containers to help keep them dust free. Label the containers if you can’t see in them and place neatly on the shelf.

Wow, stand back and enjoy your newly organized closet. As a professional organizer I get so excited when I see all the shoes and clothes organized so they can be seen and I just know it makes the person’s life so much easier and peaceful as it eliminates the frustration of wondering what to wear.

Clearing Clutter In The Laundry Room

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Clearing Clutter In The Laundry Room

Clearing clutter in the laundry roomI saw the most beautiful laundry room ever in a new home. There is cute tile the full length of the counter top and florescent lights galore under the upper cupboards. The tile is in bright colors depicting different clothes. There is a lot of space in the room and it is a dream to fold clothes as there are two large windows at the end of the room.

Many of us don’t have this much room where we do laundry and we need to set about clearing clutter. Especially when others are doing their laundry. Here is an organizing tip to help others to do their own laundry:

Write a step-by-step how-to’s for each load of laundry that will be done—one for delicates, one for color’s, one for whites and for darks. Put on the card how much soap to use, bleach etc.

And be sure to include what drying cycle should be used and if a dryer sheet should be tossed in with the clothes. Clearing clutter will be part of the instructions—throw the old dryer sheet in the trash and clean out the lint screen with every batch.

This will save you and them a lot of time and a lot of questions when they are doing the laundry.
