Summer is a different season for fashion. Rules do not apply. Wear a leather jacket it you want! I don’t care! I may question this look in 105 degree heat while I’m sweating my butt off, but fashion is it’s own world in the summer.

However, if you are still struggling with ways to make yourself look totally chic this summer season, here are some great ways, courtesy of Net-A-Porter.com
1. Cover Up!
You want to stay healthy during the summer right? Hats are a great way to stay healthy during the summer. Of course wear at least SPF 15 sunscreen at all times, but if you’re on your way to the beach with the family for the day grab a great hat. Fedoras are making a comeback this season, and cowboy hats are always fun!
2. Accessorize With Sunglasses
They’re all over the place now. Whether you are running in to Forever 21 to get some disposable fun accessories that you’ll throw out after one outing, or you’re investing in some sunglasses for the long haul, sunglasses can be worn for more then eye protection. Remember when bangs made their comeback in 2007? I worn my sunglasses as a headband from March until September during that trend. And I’m hoping to bring that trend back. Who’s with me?
3. Wear a Snazzy Summer Top
The summer is all about being fun, so try something that you wouldn’t normally wear. Whether it’s a sleeveless shirt, a three quarter sleeve shirt, or even a different color, now is the time to experiment! (Adam Embelished Top $172.50)
4. Wear Some Bling
Always! Some people decide to dress down during this season, make-up is minimal and clothing is slim to none. But, that doesn’t mean you have to give up your earrings, necklaces, and rings, right? I say, the more the better! Wearing great jewelry during the summer will only draw attention to your flawless minimalist look.
5. Try Wearing Cropped Pants (Warning! This may only work for some of us!)
Cropped pants are fun. They’re a good compromise between shorts and jeans. And this season, they’re all over the place. But, warning, if you’re under 5′6 you may not want to wear them out in public. Even if feel comfortable, they’re going to cut you off and make you look like an oompa loompa and we don’t want that. I only say this because I myself have been a victim.
6. Maximize Your Wardrobe
Umm, hello? Where have you been? Buy a maxi dress! Buy lots of them. Because they’re amazing. Whether it’s strapless, dressy, or casual, the maxi dress is on my top 3 list of things a fashionista must have this summer. However, the maxi dress is a lot like the cropped pant, if you don’t get the perfect dress and you are short, it will look like a fashion mess. So, consider reading up on proportions. 7. Shorts Anyone?
Summer would not be summer without getting a new pair of shorts. Whether they are super short shorts, a la Daisy Duke, or they are just some work appropriate walking shorts, to usher in the summer season you should pick some up!
8. Try Some Wedges
I will always pick flats over any other shoe in my closet, but, I do have a couple pairs of wedge sandals in my closet. These are a great alternative to the heel during the summer; especially if you’re looking for height but will be on the beach. (Oscar De la Renta Batik Espadrille Wedges $197.50).
9. Lighten and Brighten Up!
Get a bright bag! I cannot say it enough! Get a fun summer bag! This doesn’t mean buying a whole new style bag, though, just get one in the same style but another fun color!
10. Raise Your Hemline!
Maxi dresses are great for some events, but if you’re going to be out in the sun and want a natural tan, what good will that long skirt do? Or if you’ve been working on that bikini bod and want to show it off what’s the point of covering it up? Get a short skirt and show off those hot legs and arms! There is no time like the present!
