Exhaustion Gets Better of Susan Boyle

Fresh off her disappointing second place finish in ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, singing sensation Susan Boyle was taken to hospital suffering from exhaustion.

It comes as little surprise as Boyle came out of nowhere to become a global star.

According to the Sun: ” The staff were concerned – something wasn’t right.

“When the paramedics and police arrived she agreed to go voluntarily. She didn’t make a fuss. The paramedics calmly took her out through the main lobby and into the waiting ambulance.

“It was all done very calmly. They didn’t want to stress or upset her. She didn’t look well – she looked lost, not all there.”

A source at the clinic said last night: “I was having a cigarette break when a whole load of ambulances arrived.

“Everyone was saying, ‘Who’s that’? Then I saw her and it was Susan Boyle. I was gobsmacked.”

Many predict that Boyle has huge earning potential, and estimate her first year value to be over $13 million.

Let’s hope that this sensation has a speedy recovery.

Getting Rid of Clutter Simplifies Our Lives

Are you on overload and you want to simplify your life so you have more time for yourself and your family? Let’s talk this week about how to simplify your life. As a professional organizer I suggest it may be as easy as getting rid of clutter.

I have a drawer that I thought was organized because all the extension cords were there almost neatly wrapped up and some floor cleaning pads.

I bought some cute cloth containers at IKEA last week and I was on a quest on how I could use them. I am always on the lookout for cute and useful containers and I am always getting rid of clutter so these two go hand in hand.

I first took everything out of the drawer with the pads and cords and I was in for a big surprise. Other things had started living there too instead of going to their own homes after they were used. (Wire, paint brushes, sand paper, and a few other things). They all have their own homes so vacation was over for them as I put them back where they belong.

I contained all of the extension cords so they now take up MUCH less space. AHHH, already I have simplified. I even gave a few cords away as I found I had way more than I can use.

What a simple thing it was getting rid of clutter to simplify my life.

What have you done this week to simplify your life?

3 Lessons in Seasonal Retail Opportunities

3 Lessons in Seasonal Retail Opportunities

We all know who the Easter bunny is and although we don’t quite understand his connection with the Christian Easter story, we all play along.

I’m a big fan of the Easter bunny, but I would never have thought of the bunny as something to buy at Easter time. But there are people who do, apparently. Myself and my wife run a number of online businesses. One of these specializes in soft toys and we’ve been completely taken by surprise. All our rabbits are literally hopping out the door!

So, cuddly bunnies are something to buy at Easter time. Who knew? Next year we’ll be more prepared. So what’s the lesson here? We think there are three main ones:

  1. Be aware and prepared for seasonal opportunities relating to your business. They aren’t always obvious. Take our example – you might have thought of the chocolate, but did you think of the rabbits? Take a look at a calendar and note the major gift buying dates throughout the year and think carefully where the opportunities may lie for your business. Then factor this into your stock plan for the year.
  2. Think outside the box. Seasonal factors also present an opportunity to sell products that wouldn’t normally fit in with your business. For example, you might be specialize in baby gifts but on Mother’s day, it would be appropriate to have a range of gifts for mummies too!
  3. Always be prepared to take advantage of an unexpected opportunity. Luckily for us, we noticed an unusual increase in rabbit sales just in time. Keeping a close eye on sales patterns will allow you to pick up on unusual patterns which may give you some advance warning of a seasonal opportunity.

In conclusion, by not planning ahead, we may be missing out on valuable seasonal opportunities. When looking for these opportunities, we need to be open minded and be creative in what we judge to fit in with our business. Finally, we don’t always get it right and might not spot all the opportunities in advance. Keeping a close eye on sales will allow us to seize unexpected opportunities and make some profit from them.
